I was having a conversation with a friend who is in a wheelchair because of his TBI, and another resident said he drinks too much coffee. I had to laugh because I drink coffee all day myself and it’s the good stuff.
There are essential nutrients in coffee. Coffee is more than just black water. Many of the nutrients in the coffee beans do make it into the final drink. According to Riordan Clinic and their article, 13 Health Benefits of Coffee, Based on Science, “a single cup of coffee contains Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 11% Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5): 6% of the RDA, Manganese, and Potassium: 3% of the RDA, and Magnesium and Niacin: 2% of the RDA”. Although this may not seem like a big deal, most people are drinking more than one cup of coffee per day. If you drink more coffee, these amounts add up quickly. Bottom line is that because of my TBI, they claim they are protecting me by limiting my coffee consumption to two cups a day, but they are preventing me from getting all the benefits of the coffee for the past nine years. This just makes me do my research.
