While doing research for my own book, I found a book that describes a lot of the issues I was experiencing as a patient of the hospital. The book is titled Health Care from the Trenches; An Insider Account of the Complex Barriers of U.S. Healthcare from the Providers and Patients' Perspective. The author Dr. Alejandro Badia is a medical doctor that sees a lot of crap.I like his perspective because he's not trying to sugarcoat his experience. He makes it in turn more relatable. I remember coming out of my coma no one could be bothered. They gave me a bell. If I needed a nurse I would ring it and sometimes wait up to an hour which seemed like 5 hours. It all brings up my experience in the hospital. All the beeping and people coming in every hour. People walking the hallways. The door is left open so you can hear everything. And don’t get me started on the lights. These fluorescence on and brighter every time someone comes in to “check this” and “check that”. I am glad I found this book to give credibility to my chapters describing that the medical system is messed up. It makes what I have been saying all along sound more cohesive. Today was our monthly Bible Studies course. This is a great time to meet with a local Pastor who happens to also work where I live. Today we got to talk about God’s path, Joseph's path, and our own paths. How we can journey to our own promised land. Similar to how I talk about muscles, you have to have faith in each process you go through. It is not always what you want at the moment but it might be part of the BIGGER plan. In this case, I think having faith will get you there. I did not want to be stuck here for 10 years but then I think of all the things I have accomplished. I would not have been able to do all the things I have done if I had not been here. In this case maybe it is not the situation but what you DO in your situation. I see others around me not doing anything and I wonder how is that going to help them. A TBI is not only something that happens to you, end of story, it is the new beginning of your story. You have to take the experience as a sign that you are on a journey and have to keep moving forward. This is why I do so much research and reading on TBIs so I can help others in similar situations. Having this time to worship and dive deeper into scripture, reassures my faith. Also, being able to look back at everything that has happened is like, WOW. It is not the building or the people, but having His presence and space. I choose to walk by faith. Smaller goals lead to BIGGER goals reached. Success doesn’t just come, you have to work for it. Make smaller goals to get to a bigger goal. That will make the process more fulfilling. You won’t feel like you are spending so much time to achieve that bigger goal. What I am saying is set those smaller goals that will lead to what you ultimately want. For example, you want to run a marathon, set daily tasks to get stronger over time. You can’t run a 5K on day one, especially in my case with broken ankles. I worked to strengthen my ankles, walking, and balance practice. Oh man, was I feeling it. Another example for me is my writing career. Overcoming the initial thought that I might be stuck in a coma to now where I am today. That didn’t happen without a LOT of small steps. I do not bring this up as much as I do to be conceited. I talk about it to be inspirational to others that might be at that early stage. When you are at the starting line it is easy to be discouraged or give up. I am so glad I did not give up. It has made me stronger, stronger than I was before the accident. I might not be 100% stronger physically but definitely much stronger mentally. PLEASE COMMENT BELOW ->
My book is FINALLY HERE! "I have learned that if you chose to look at life from the perspective of what you don't have, then yes, your life will definitely suck. When you feel you don't have an abundance of things right now, you should always use your mind's eye to see what could be! Don't let yourself get discouraged. When you're working toward greatness, everything takes hard work."
-Note From the Author Let me know what you think below in the comments: Fatigue to me is feeling drained, lethargic, and just overall low energy. It comes and goes. Myself and a lot of other people experience it more in the winter. I think it is because of the lack of sun. Once you have fatigue it is harder to get motivated. This is why you need to push past it to grow. Like I have said before. There are lots of things that can dissuade you and make it hard to find your resilience. The main goal for me is to not get “stuck in this”. I use exercise to get my body activated. Coffee doesn't fix fatigue. That is a temporary fix. That will not get you the holistic lifestyle. Your diet also comes into play when you are feeling fatigued. You can ask yourself; Am I getting enough nutrients? Fiber? And you can’t forget the vitamins you need like, C, E, and all the Bs. Water is also the nutrient for life so it can not be left out. So all this said, next time you are feeling fatigued ask yourself what can I do and what could I be missing. Check in with yourself. When I say “check in” I mean listen to your body. It might not be what your brain is telling you it wants; but what your body really needs. Please comment below.
