Honor the Troops

I wanted to say thank you to all my brothers and sisters for having the courage to uphold our freedoms. Memorial Day celebrates the fallen soldiers and this is important to realize that people have sacrificed their lives so we can be free and live our lives the way we want to. I have family and friends who have served in the Marines and praise God that they are still with us. I was actually in the process of enlisting in the armed forces when I was younger but there were things that disqualified me from joining. I considered it because it seemed like a good think to do to fight for our country. Let's take a moment to reflect and say personal prayer.

Sometimes I feel like a fraud. I heard the term "imposter syndrome" and this is a good term to think of how I am feeling after writing a book. I didn't start feeling this way until I had a TBI. It is remarkable to me the things I have done and I haven't thrown in the towel. See, I believe that anything can be healed through nutrition and prayer. I wasn't supposed to even walk, but now I run six miles. Can I get an amen?! And to the doctors, don't underestimate my God!

I Lift Things Up and I Put Them Down

When doing cardio exercises, it helps the brain because the lungs put oxygen into the blood which then gets carried to the brain. For cardio I run, walk, and do aerobic exercises.
According to Nuffield Health, it says "Aerobic means ‘with air’ and refers to the body producing energy with the use of oxygen. This typically involves any exercise that lasts longer than two minutes in duration. Continuous ‘steady state’ exercise is performed aerobically. Anaerobic means ‘without air’ and refers to the body producing energy without oxygen. This is typically exercise that is performed at a higher intensity. There are two ways that the body can produce energy anaerobically."

That burn feeling when working out happens when there is a buildup of lactate acid. Some people might not like that feeling, but that is where I am different. I know it's a good feeling and it's actually letting the muscle break down so then it can rebuild to be stronger.

Pet Therapy

Once a week Murph, the Pet Therapy woman, comes and brings two of her dogs. Everybody comes out to spend time with the dogs, but I usually go later so I can have more one-on-one time. They are too old to play fetch and to chase so I just pet them and talk to Murph. It's really just time for me to have adult time and to talk to someone else. The dogs are good, but it's nice to have someone else to talk to. For the other residents, the pets are good for companionship and to use fine motor skills to pet the dogs. They just bring a calming feeling.
According to Animal-Assisted Therapy and TBI Recovery, dogs can be helpful for social interaction, reconnection, mobility, and calming down.
