I recently came across a graphic novel that is very different from what I am used to. It is not just a graphic novel. It is an action packed play-by-play retelling of stories from The Bible. It is incredibly engaging and makes the stories truly come to life. I could not help but think how nice it would have been to have something like this when I was a child and just beginning to learn these stories.
The book is called The Hero Bible by Nicolle A. I have been leafing through it and today paused at the retelling of Luke 2:1: 20, The Birth of Jesus. This is such an important story. I liked the way it is presented with detailed illustrations and clear storytelling. It makes it easy to follow and can keep the attention of readers of all ages. The artwork depicts many familiar characters including Queen Esther, who is illustrated as fierce and powerful. Seeing these figures portrayed so vividly adds a new layer of depth and emotion to the stories. I have been writing my own commentary on the Bible for several years now and this book has inspired me to think about adding more creative elements to my own work as well. If you are interested I have included a link to the direct purchase page below. This would make a thoughtful gift for a new follower or a comic book lover alike. When you lose, carry yourself as if you have won. A setback is not the end of your life—keep moving forward. The better question isn’t, “How can I be happy?” but “How can we be happy?” True fulfillment is shared. We enter this world without clear expectations or a defined purpose. Sometimes, we need to pause and surrender instead of overthinking every detail. We don’t need all the answers to the universe to live a meaningful life. Choose not to react impulsively. The person who constantly reacts is not in control. Strive to become impossible to offend. When someone does upset you, see it as a signal—an internal flag pointing to an area for growth. That awareness prepares you to respond more thoughtfully in the future. Some people just want to react and fuel themselves. To see how you react to something. Don’t let those people get a rise out of you. We spend much of our lives preparing not to lose or to avoid being last, yet loss is inevitable. Instead, prepare for challenges so their impact is softened. Every experience, whether good or bad, offers an opportunity to learn, grow, and become stronger. What did you lose today? How did you react? What did you learn about yourself or the other person? This message is for YOU. This message is for ME. And this message is for our current selves and our future selves. A bird resting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not in the branch but in her own wings. We often live our whole lives relying only on ourselves. Just as the bird has faith in her wings, we need to have faith in Him. Understand that He lives in us, so like the bird’s wings are a part of her, He is a part of us. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13 Turmeric’s rocking that sunshine glow while its phytonutrient squad swoops in like tiny superheroes to zap free radicals. Wild blueberries, purple in color, pumping in anthocyanins for the win. Chia seeds rich with fiber and omega-3, oh my! Banana’s a potassium burst not just loved by monkeys but by your brain. Honey, what can I say, it’s good for everything. Walnuts, shaped like a brain AND good for the brain. Black pepper sprinkled on top to enhance the benefits of all of the above!
